WHAT IS THE RECYCLING OF NON-FERROUS METALS?

Recycling of non-ferrous metals allows to reduce the costs associated with the production of aluminum, copper, tin and other raw materials used on a large scale in industry. At the same time, the processing of aluminum or copper waste allows to significantly reduce the processes of environmental pollution. Find out how non-ferrous metals are recycled and why it is necessary today.

WHAT ARE NON-FERROUS METALS?
The name “non-ferrous metals” refers to the group of metals and alloys that do not contain iron. We are talking here, among others about aluminum, copper, tin, brass, bronze and lead. They are also often referred to as non-ferrous metals. Non-ferrous metals are among the raw materials that are recyclable, just like glass, waste paper or plastics, commonly known as plastics. The recycling processes of individual non-ferrous metals vary depending on the composition and properties of individual metals, and the processing of some raw materials may take up to several dozen days, but this form of obtaining the raw material is still much more effective than its production with the use of a huge amount of resources after all, the number of which is limited. Just mention

WHY IS THE RECYCLING OF NON-FERROUS METALS A MUST?
The processing of recyclable non-ferrous metals is not only a matter of minimizing production costs and limiting the use of the Earth’s natural resources. The third very important factor that affects the scale of metal recycling is environmental pollution, generated both by the processes of aluminum or copper production, but also as a consequence of residual waste such as lead or zinc in the natural environment. The recycling of non-ferrous metals is therefore both a necessity and a challenge facing the modern world.

RECYCLING OF ALUMINUM AND COPPER
The most common examples of non-ferrous metals processed in recycling processes are copper and aluminum. Old cans, car rims and packaging, as well as electric cables, pipes and plumbing components are just some examples of the presence of copper and aluminum. These types of raw materials, after initial selection and cleaning, can be melted in special furnaces, and thanks to the re-castings in special forms, they gain a “new life”. The process of aluminum recycling itself is quite long and is divided into the following stages:

mechanical pre-treatment,
burning off paints and prints, removing varnish,
remelting,
filtration and purification.
The process of processing copper scrap comes down to its smelting in the furnace, reduction and casting of bars. In the case of contaminated copper elements, it is necessary to refine them, thanks to which it is possible to obtain metals of the highest degree of purity.

RECYCLING OF OTHER NON-FERROUS METALS
Not only copper and aluminum are processed in the recycling process. The group of secondary raw materials also includes metals such as lead, tin and zinc. A very important feature of metal processing is the fact that recycling is almost lossless – the amount of waste generated as a result of obtaining a new product from scrap of non-ferrous metals is trace, as is environmental pollution.
