Scrap Aluminium is one of the most common elements found in the Earth’s crust. It is considered a light metal – it’s nearly three times lighter than iron, which gives it a great advantage in the production of metal objects for everyday use. Unfortunately, pure aluminium is not at all durable. It is possible, however, to strengthen it using other elements, e.g. copper, iron, silicon, through heat treating. Aluminium alloys created this way are both lightweight and sturdy, giving them a broad range of possible applications. Their durability is high, unlike their fatigue limit. Similarly to copper, aluminium is immune to corrosion, and becomes covered with its own oxides by contact with air (this is called the passivation process). Aluminium is also a good heat and electricity conductor.
